General Theme for the Assembly

Christ Above All: Reformed Life in a Post-Christian Era

The Seventh General Assembly of the World Reformed Fellowship will gather under the theme “Christ Above All: Reformed Life in a Post-Christian Era.” This theme expresses the WRF’s conviction that Jesus Christ remains sovereign over every sphere of life and that the global Reformed church is called to faithful worship, witness, and service under His lordship.

While much of the world has never been Christian in a historical or civilizational sense, the cultural influence of the modern West has spread post-Christian assumptions across the globe through education, media, technology, economics, and public life. In many places, the church now ministers in societies shaped by secularism, fragmentation, moral confusion, and resistance to transcendent truth. Yet the confession of the church remains unchanged: Christ is above all, Lord of all, and sufficient for all.

The Assembly will consider how Reformed churches can live faithfully in this context by drawing deeply from three enduring wellsprings of Christian life and witness: Scripture, prayer and spiritual disciplines, and missional commitment. These are not merely programmatic emphases but gifts of God through which the Spirit forms, renews, and sends His people into the world.

The Three Wellsprings

Scripture
The Word of God is the wellspring of truth, authority, wisdom, and direction for the people of God. In every age, the church must be reformed and renewed by the living voice of God in Holy Scripture.

Prayer and Spiritual Disciplines
Prayer and the spiritual disciplines are the wellspring of communion with the living Christ, forming His people in humility, holiness, dependence, and perseverance.

Missional Commitment
The church’s mission is the wellspring of outward witness and service, as Christ sends His people into the world to proclaim the gospel, make disciples, and serve the nations in His name.

Together, these wellsprings call the global Reformed family to renewed faithfulness as we seek to live, worship, and bear witness under the lordship of Jesus Christ.

The Seventh General Assembly of the World Reformed Fellowship will be held in Seoul, South Korea, from Wednesday, October 28, to Friday, October 30, 2026.

The Assembly will be hosted by SaRang Church in partnership with the Presbyterian Church in Korea (Hapdong). All General Assembly worship services, plenary sessions, panels, seminars, business sessions, and other official activities will take place in the outstanding facilities of SaRang Church.

The Assembly will begin with an Opening Worship Service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, and will conclude with a Closing Worship Service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30.

Hosting the Assembly in Korea reflects the WRF’s commitment to strengthening fellowship with the Korean Reformed Church while fostering deeper unity, theological reflection, and partnership throughout the global Reformed community. It is our hope that the global Reformed family will be blessed by the theological vitality, prayerful devotion, and missionary commitment of the Korean church, and that the Korean church will likewise be encouraged through fellowship with brothers and sisters from around the world.

The Seventh General Assembly will include preaching, plenary addresses, panel discussions, seminars, and other contributions from pastors, theologians, church leaders, and ministry practitioners from Korea and from across the global Reformed community.

The program is being designed around the Assembly theme, “Christ Above All: Reformed Life in a Post-Christian Era,” and its three daily emphases: Scripture, prayer and spiritual disciplines, and missional commitment. Each day will include worship and preaching, plenary teaching, and opportunities for reflection, conversation, and fellowship.

The Assembly is expected to include contributions from leaders representing the WRF, the Korean hosts, and the wider global Reformed fellowship, including preaching and plenary sessions related to:
  • The centrality of Scripture in Reformed life and witness
  • Expository preaching and proclamation in the contemporary world
  • Prayer, spiritual disciplines, and communion with Christ
  • Mission, discipleship, and global Reformed partnership
  • The witness of the Korean church and the ongoing ministry of SaRang Church
  • The future direction of the World Reformed Fellowship
These are some of the confirmed speakers, panelists and worship participants:
Bishop James Lagos Alexander is a South Sudanese church leader and former Presiding Bishop of the Africa Inland Church (AIC), South Sudan. His ministry has been shaped by faithful witness amid civil war, persecution, imprisonment, and the rebuilding of churches and communities after conflict. He has served as a prominent evangelical voice calling the church in South Sudan to perseverance, unity, forgiveness, reconciliation, and gospel mission.

Professor Pierre Berthoud taught biblical languages at the Free Evangelical Seminary of Vaux-sur-Seine (1969-1971). From 1971 to 1975, he worked with Dr. Francis A. Schaeffer, head of the study centre, l’Abri Fellowship in Huémoz (Switzerland). He participated in the French translation of several of F. Schaeffer’s books.

In 1975, he became professor of Old Testament at the Free Reformed Seminary of Aix-en-Provence (now the Faculté Jean Calvin). He taught Old Testament and Apologetics there until August 2009 when he retired. He continued to teach Old Testament at the Seminary until 2012. Professor Berthoud was Doyen (Dean) of the Seminary for 19 years, from 1984 to 2001 and from 2007 to 2009. In 2012 he was appointed  Président of the Board of the Seminary. Concerned by the various practical and cultural implications of the Christian faith, he has been actively involved in Scripture Union, A Rocha France (Ecology), the Conseil national des Evangéliques de France (CNEF), and continues to be engaged in the Parvis des Arts.

He is president of the Fellowship of European Evangelical Theologians (since 2008) and has written many articles on different themes related to the Old Testament and to Apologetics. His book, En quête des origines. Les premières étapes de l’histoire de la Révélation : Genèse 1 à 11, Cléon d’Andran: Excelsis/Aix-en-Provence: Kerygma, was published at the end of 2008.

Rev. Chang Bong Saing is Moderator of the 110th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Korea (Hapdong) and Senior Pastor of Seodaemun Church in Seoul. A longtime denominational leader, he has served the Hapdong General Assembly in a variety of roles, including work related to prayer renewal, policy research, student leadership, global mission, and interchurch cooperation. His leadership reflects the theological conservatism, Presbyterian identity, and missionary vitality of one of the largest Reformed denominations in South Korea.

Rev. Dr. Billy Kristanto is an Indonesian Reformed theologian, pastor, lecturer, and musician. He serves with the Reformed Evangelical Church of Indonesia and teaches theology at STT Reformed Injili Internasional in Jakarta. With advanced academic work in both theology and music, his ministry and scholarship focus on systematic and historical theology, liturgical theology, spiritual renewal, and the relationship between worship, culture, and faithful Christian discipleship. He is a member of the WRF Theology Commission.

Rev. Dr. Davi Charles Gomes is International Director and CEO of the World Reformed Fellowship, a role in which he has served since 2017. He previously served as Chancellor of Mackenzie Presbyterian University and as President of the Andrew Jumper Presbyterian Graduate School of Theology in Brazil. An ordained minister with pastoral experience in the United States and Brazil, he is Senior Minister of Igreja Presbiteriana Paulistana in São Paulo and President of the Commission on Inter-Ecclesiastical Relations of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil. Dr. Gomes has taught, preached, and lectured internationally, and has published books, articles, and chapters in English and Portuguese.

Rev. Dr. Jeong Yeong-gyo is a South Korean Presbyterian minister and Senior Pastor of Sanbon Yangmun Church in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province. A key leader within the Presbyterian Church in Korea (Hapdong), he has served as Pastor Vice-Moderator of the General Assembly (Moderator Elect for 2026-2027 term) and is recognized for his commitment to Reformed theology, local discipleship, and mission in the digital age. He holds theological degrees from Chongshin University Theological Seminary and Westminster Theological Seminary and has also served in teaching and broadcasting ministries.

Rev. Dr. Young Gyu Ko was born in South Korea and serves in Brazil as an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil. He is the founder and pastor of Igreja Presbiteriana Agua Viva, in São Paulo. He is the director od DMI (Discipleship Making Ministries International) in Latin America  and coordinates the work of CAL (Call to Awaken the Laity - from Sarang Presbyterian Church) in Brazil. He has a PhD in Contextual Studies from PTSA (Presbyterian Theological Seminary in America).

Dr. John McClean is Vice Principal of Christ College in Sydney, Australia, and teaches in the areas of Christian Thought focussing on Systematic Theology and Ethics. Within this he also teaches Westminster Confession and the Church and Ministry unity. John was the Minister of Cowra Presbyterian Church (1995-2002), a visiting lecturer at PTC in 1994 and completed the Ministry Training Scheme at St Matthias Anglican Church (1988-1991).  He is married to Elizabeth and they have two teenage children. John is a consumate theologian.  He teaches systematics and ethics, and writes many articles on ethical issues.  He is regularly off speaking at conferences.  He has his “feet on the ground” in respect to congregational ministry, playing his part on a regular basis in the congregation to which he belongs.

Rev. Professor Andrew McGowan is a Scottish Reformed theologian, minister of the Church of Scotland, and Vice Chairman of the World Reformed Fellowship, where he also chairs the Theological Commission. He formerly served as Principal of Highland Theological College and as Director of the Rutherford Centre for Reformed Theology. A graduate of Aberdeen University (BD and PhD) and Union Theological Seminary (STM), he has taught theology internationally and has published widely in systematic theology, Reformed doctrine, Christology, Scripture, and covenant theology.

Rev. Dr. Robert “Rob” Norris is Chairman of the Board of the World Reformed Fellowship and Teaching Pastor at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland, where he served as Senior Pastor from 1984 to 2015. Born in Wales, he holds degrees from King’s College London and the University of St Andrews, and has served in pastoral, chaplaincy, academic, and international teaching ministries. He has taught theology and church history at Reformed Theological Seminary and in seminaries around the world, and previously served with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students and on the founding board of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals.

Rev. Dr. Jung-Hyun “John” Oh is Senior Pastor of SaRang Church in Seoul, South Korea, one of the world’s largest Presbyterian congregations. He previously founded and led Sa-Rang Community Church of Southern California before succeeding Rev. Oak Han-heum as Senior Pastor of SaRang Church in 2003. A graduate of Talbot School of Theology, Calvin Theological Seminary, and North-West University, Dr. Oh is widely known for his emphasis on discipleship, prayer, global mission, and church renewal, and has served in significant leadership roles in the Lausanne Movement, Soongsil University, and SaRang Global Academy.

Rev. Dr. Todd Smedley is Senior Pastor of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland, where he previously served as Senior Associate Pastor. An ordained minister in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, he has taught systematic and pastoral theology internationally, including in Japan, Egypt, Romania, and South Africa. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Christ Bible Seminary in Nagoya, Japan, and has contributed to theological education initiatives for pastors in Africa and Asia. Dr. Smedley holds degrees from Dickinson College, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and the University of Aberdeen.

Rev. Dr. Henk Stoker is a South African Reformed theologian, minister, and professor of Apologetics and Ethics at North-West University and the Theological Seminary of the Reformed Churches in South Africa in Potchefstroom. An ordained minister in the Reformed Churches in South Africa, he served for many years in pastoral ministry before entering academic leadership and theological education. He has served on numerous church, university, and theological boards and committees, and has been involved with the World Reformed Fellowship through consultations, General Assembly participation, and contributions to Reformed missional reflection. His published work focuses especially on ethics and apologetics.
